Meet the Officers and Committee

Club President: Derek Shapland

With his wife Coral they purchased their first Cocker in 1976 from Daphne and Ernie Darby (Classicway) a blue roan bitch called Classicway Celestial Hope. That was the start of their 47 years association with the breed. Their affix was quickly obtained and Deracor cockers had began.
Subsequently they bought a black bitch from Poppy Becker of the Olanza Kennel, Olanza Polonaise at Deracor which won 2 CC's for them. Over the years they have won a few Res CC's with various homebred black dogs, have had 26 stud book numbers and several JW winners.
Derek has been involved as a Committee Member, Secretary and now President of The West of England Cocker Spaniel Club for many years, holding the role of Secretary for 12 years between 1991 and 2003. Derek has been our Chairman for over 10 years following on from Ken McFarlane In
2005 Derek became Secretary of The Cocker Spaniel Club, the post he held till 2017 when he became Chairman a post he still holds.
Derek has been lucky enough to be asked to judge throughout the world including the USA, Australia and several European Countries. He was honoured to judge at the World's best show Crufts in 2019. He will be judging in Finland soon and bitches at the London Cocker Spaniel Club this year.
This friendly well respected club is delighted to have Derek as our President.
